Massive Real Pinecone Coulter Pine Cone Widowmaker

Very rare and very LARGE is this massive real pinecone from the Coulter Tree.  Coulter trees grow in the Southern coastal mountains of California and Northern Mexico.  Trees range from 30-80 ft tall. The outstanding characteristic of this tree is the large, spiny cones which are 8-16" long and weigh 4-10 lbs when fresh. Coulter Pines produce the largest cones of any pine tree species (people are actually advised to wear hardhats when working in Coulter Pine groves). The large size of the cones has earned them the nickname "widowmakers" among locals. Shown in the picture is a average size Blue Spruce Cone for comparison.  Our cones average 8" long by about 5" wide.  Some of the tips are crushed from the fall and weight of the cone. They also have wire attached to the bottom end for ease of hanging/displaying which could be easily removed if you like. $45.00 each
